Reading in Library

Moulton’s
Millionaire Reader Program

The goal of Moulton's Millionaire Reader program is simple — to motivate students to read more!

Using a program called Accelerated Reader already on their Chromebooks, students take short quizzes on books they’ve read. Accelerated Reader tracks the total number of words they read throughout the year for them.

As students increase their reading volume, they expand their vocabulary and deepen their language comprehension skills. The more students read, the more confident and capable they become as learners!

Our million-word readers are recognized at Thursday Flag Ceremony for their awesome achievement!

HOW DO you participate?

  • Students access a program called Accelerated Reader (already loaded on their Chromebooks) and take quizzes on books they have read.

    • Note: Please be patient when opening up Accelerated Reader. The log-in is automatic, but it loads SLOWLY. Your student does not need to click any buttons or enter further password information.

  • When a student reaches 1 million words total, they should tell their teacher! The teacher will notify the front office so they can be welcomed into the Millionaire Reader Club at the next flag ceremony and receive their prize!

  • Many students don't stop at 1 million words - Students earn various other prizes for each additional million words they read:

    • 1 million = Moulton Millionaire Reader t-shirt

    • 2 million = Moulton Millionaire Reader book light and a reading journal.

    • 3 million = Moulton Millionaire stuffed teddy bear

    • 4 million = $25 gift certificate to Barnes and Noble

    • 5 million = Trophy & special surprise

    • 6 million+ = Surprises To Be Announced! â€‹

Reading in Library

Program Rules & FAQs

  • Students should only test on books they have read since June 2, 2025. The program is designed to incentivize current reading.

  • Students may test on books they read independently, listened to the audiobook for, or that were read aloud to them. Watching the movie does not count.

  • Quizzes must be taken independently with no outside help from a parent, siblings, etc.

  • Quizzes are "open book", however, and students may refer to the book to refresh their recollection.

  • Please check with your classroom teacher to see if quizzes can be taken at home or must be taken during class time.

Q. Why do audiobooks count?

A. Audiobooks count as reading because they deliver the same story, characters, and themes, engaging your brain in comprehension, imagination, and critical thinking, just like print books. They offer benefits like vocabulary building while providing access for those with learning differences.

Q. My child reached 1 million words but wasn't recognized at flag ceremony. Why not?

A. Please let your child's teacher know that they have reached 1 million words! Once the teacher knows they can notify the front office and your child will be recognized!
