Become a
CUSD
Volunteer

volunteers

Capistrano Unified School District welcomes volunteers as an integral part of the classroom program, and the District encourages individuals to work in the classroom on a regular basis.

CUSD has two types of volunteers: Tier 1 and Tier 2

Many volunteer opportunities only require Tier 2 approval, which can be completed same-day and for free! (Watch D.O.G.S. or Art Cart weekly volunteers only need Tier 2 approval.)

Tier 1 volunteers undergo fingerprinting through a local Live Scan provider and it costs approximately $70 and takes 1-2 weeks for the background check to be complete. While the process takes a little longer, it only needs to be completed once and Tier 1 volunteers are cleared to do many more activities around school and go on field trips. Please consider becoming a Tier 1 Volunteer!

TIER 1 VOLUNTEERS

Tier 1 volunteers may have unsupervised contact with students and can include field trip chaperones/drivers, coaches, and tutors. Tier 1 volunteers undergo a more rigorous process before being approved, which includes getting fingerprinted through the Department of Justice/FBI.

In order to become a Tier 1 Volunteer:

  1. Click the Volunteer Application link below to apply online. After confirming your email, you will need a valid Drivers License/Passport and will also be asked for some other identifying information through a secure server.

  2. Once the online application is completed, a Live Scan form will be automatically sent to you. Select a Live Scan provider and bring in your form, ID, and payment to complete the fingerprinting and background check. A list of Live Scan providers is linked below - some allow walk-ins while others are appointment-only.

  3. Contact the Moulton Elementary front office about two weeks after being fingerprinted to verify that your fingerprints have cleared. Once cleared, you may report to the school to volunteer!
